You should also check the Info Page and News for additions, exceptions and modifications that may apply. The rules are a guideline and the decisions by admins may differ from them depending on the circumstances. If you have any questions about the rules, please write a support ticket.

All participants of the ESL Trackmania tournaments are expected to behave in an appropriate and respectful manner towards other participants, spectators and the admins. In special cases, the admin team reserves the right to change or expand the rules if necessary and the right to make decisions which are not covered by the rules, to preserve the spirit of fair competition and sportsmanship.
2. Rules on different cups and championships
As the game offer a lot of opportunities regarding what rules and formats are applied in different cups, we please you to check out the Quick Rules section on the cup pages. They should contain enough information for how you can participate, what you have to pay attention for and how you can get support for the cup in question.
3. General rules for ladder and regular cups
3.1. Match Media
On our ladders, match media has to be uploaded. A screenshot of the scoreboard at the end of each track must be taken and uploaded to the match page within 24 hours. Not respecting this rule will lead to one penalty points for each contestant.
3.1.1. Keeping files
All match media (screenshots, demos, etc) must be kept for at least 14 days. In general, you should upload the match media from a match to the match page as soon as possible. Faking or manipulating match media is of course forbidden and will result in severe penalties. Match media should be named clearly based on what it is. It is not possible to file a protest or write a support ticket to complain about bad match media naming. However, if an admin is hindered in their work because of bad match media names then it can be punished for.
3.2. Match Rules
3.2.1. Before the match
18.104.22.168. Server choice
Both sides should try to come to an agreement on a server to play on. If both sides cannot agree on a single server, both sides have the right to request to play one track on a server of their choice. They can use this right until the beginning of the second track as long as the server they request is setup according to the ESL rules.
Each player/team has the right to warm up one round on each map. In Time Attack 2 minutes warm up can be requested. Teams have the right to warm up one round on each map with at least 75% of players. Any additional round depends on the arrangements.
3.2.2. During the match
22.214.171.124. Team size
In specific tournaments (premiership series, etc.) team distributions are given in their separated rulebook. Regular team matches are using the following rule:
- 2on2: Only 2on2 is allowed.
- 3on3: Only 2on3 and 3on3 are allowed.
- 4on4: Only 3on4 and 4on4 are allowed.
- 5on5: Only 4on4, 4on5, 5on5 are allowed.
The given options are open for arrangements before the match.
126.96.36.199. Changing players
In a team match it is not allowed to change players during a track. It is only allowed to change players between tracks. 'Changing rounds' on a new track does not count as warm up. An exception to this is in the rule 'Player drops'.
188.8.131.52. Player drops
In the case of a player dropping, the already started round is completed and counted unless all players (potentially only 1) agree to retire. You need to wait at least 10 minutes for dropped players to return. In 1on1 and 2on2 a protest must be opened if he did not return!
In team matches, a substitute driver may replace the dropped player. Teams may appoint one substitute driver (2 for 5on5). If a further player drops and doesn't reconnect within 10 minutes and the team has no more substitute drivers, the current track will be finished short handed. If the short handed team does not want to continue, a protest must be opened. All achieved points count. The missing points will be added.
3.2.3. Forbidden actions
It is not allowed to respawn at the last checkpoint. The punishment for respawning is 2 penalty points for the player, 1 penalty points for the team. There can be exceptional events, where respawn is allowed, see the Quick Rules section for this info. Unless it is not allowed, a respawning player can be punished. The punishment only valid if the respawned player affects the outcome of the round/match. In every case, a screenshot or whatever proof needs to be filed to the protest.
A shortcut is if the check points are passed in a different direction or order than the author of the track intended and the route is faster. It is also a shortcut to use a driven line differing from the authors intent even if the check points were passed in the correct direction and/or order. In the second case, admins could also make exceptions to the rules. In case of doubt, if a shortcut is used, the admins will provide a replay that shows the fastest possible and allowed line. The punishment for using shortcuts is 4 penalty points.
In case of a shortcut is revealed, it has to be reported to the administrative staff. In certain cases the staff might approve a shortcut (if it is just a faster way, like dodging a hill or similar - all these are checked with the builder.
Basically all customisations are allowed.
- Custom avatars are allowed
- Custom painted standard models are allowed
- Hiding opponents is allowed
- Custom car models are allowed and can be hidden by the opponent
4. Penalty points
In general, a player can receive up to 6 penalty points, and a team up to 4 penalty points per match, unless a single violation has a higher punishment. A team is only punished once per violation, regardless of how many players. Where a player or team receives penalty points for multiple violations, the penalty points are added together.
However, premierships are using League Penalties, which affect to the ranking itself and not to the team/player status on ESL page. League penalties, however, don't mean that contestants cannot receive general penalty points for different occasions.
