How to play a match (FAQ)

This tournament will be played in a single elimination format. The Grand Final will be played in a Best of 5 format. All other matches will be played in a Best of 3 format.

Creating/Joining a Battle Arena

To create a Battle Arena, from the main menu:

  1. Select ‘Online’ -> ‘Smash’ -> ‘Battle Arenas’ -> ‘Create Arena’
  2. Select ‘Rules’ and create a Ruleset matching the tournament rules
  3. Once the tournament rules have been selected, set Battle Arena settings:
    1. Type: All Skill Levels
    2. Visibility: Public
    3. Format: 1-on-1
    4. Rotation: Bottom One Leaves
    5. Ensure Password is enabled by pressing ‘X’
    6. Continue to more settings by pressing ‘Y’
    7. Max Players: 2
    8. Stage: Choice
    9. Spirits: Off
    10. Voice Chat: Off
  4. Create the Battle Arena
  5. Share the Battle Arena information with your opponent
    1. Once in the arena, press the Arena Settings button in top-left of screen
    2. Provide your opponent the Battle Arena ID and Password, located in top-right of screen

To join a Battle Arena, from the main menu:

  1. Select ‘Online’ -> ‘Smash’ -> ‘Battle Arenas’ -> ‘Join Arena’
  2. Select ‘Enter Arena ID’
  3. Enter the Arena ID provided by your opponent
  4. Join your opponent’s Arena and enter the password provided by your opponent
  5. Once in the arena, press the Arena Settings button in top-left of screen
  6. Verify that all arena settings match the official tournament rules

Selecting a Stage to play on:

When you enter the Battle Arena, before entering the ring, both you and your opponent will select your preferred stage. When the Match starts, the Arena will randomly choose which player’s preferred stage will be played. Below are the available stages to choose from:

  • Battlefield
  • Kongo Jungle
  • Frigate Orpheon
  • Yoshi’s Island
  • Lylat Cruise
  • Pokemon Stadium 2
  • Castle Siege
  • Smashville
  • Skyworld
  • Paper Mario
  • Gerudo Valley
  • Duck Hunt

Is this your first time? Here are the important steps:

  • Follow the instructions on the right to sign up and check in
  • If check in is enabled, make sure to check in on time
  • Wait for your first match to show up on the right
  • Get in contact with your opponent and play the match
  • Enter the result and ask your opponent to confirm
  • Wait for your next match
