These are the rules for the SC2 Open Ladder Clanwar All-Kill Europe. We make every effort to ensure the rules are complete and up to date but this may not always be the case. You should also check the Info Page and News for additions, exceptions and modifications that may apply. The rules are a guideline and the decisions by admins may differ from them depending on the circumstances. If you have any questions about the rules, please write a support ticket.

1. General Ladder Rules

1.1. Challenging

In a ladder, any participant may challenge another. The challenge may be refused by the challenged if they choose. In ladders with more than 20 participants compulsory challenges are activated. If a participant is within 20 places above the challenging participants the refusal will be punished with one penalty point. If both participants are in the top 10 then the refusal will be punished with 2 penalty points.

A challenging participant from the newcomer pool (unranked) is considered as being at the bottom of the ladder, therefore the 20 participants ranked last in the ladder would be punished for rejecting a challenge.

Participants that have more than 5 outstanding challenges in a ladder, no matter if the matches are confirmed or not, may not take on any further challenges. This is scripted into the ESL system and cannot be changed.

1.2. No show

If your opponent does not show after 15 minutes, you must enter the result as your opponent did not appear in time. Do not enter a default win for yourself.

In Instant Challenger matches, is the no show time 10 minutes.

1.3. Agreements

Certain agreements between participants are allowed to slightly differ from the ESL rules. Agreements that differ greatly from ESL rules are however not allowed. Please note that the ESL rules were made to ensure a fair match for all participants. You are not allowed to file a protest after the match if you think that the agreements made before the match in the end resulted in a disadvantage for your or your team.

Rules that can be changed with agreements are explicitly stated. Rules that do not explicitly state they can be changed by agreement, cannot have agreements made.

All arrangements between participants, made in addition to the ESL rules have to be written down in the match comments. The other participant has to confirm the arrangements also in the comments. To avoid abuse of the edit function, a third comment must be written.

Please also keep screenshots and/or logfiles of your arrangements. If you do not fulfil these requirements, any protests or supports concerning arrangements will be rejected.

The following rules may never be changed by arrangement: (a) Entering results for matches that have not been played (b) Allowing players to play that are barred because of penalty points, or are barred in the league due to a ban (c) Allowing players to play that in leagues with premium requirement that are barred for not having Premium

2. Clanwar All-Kill Rules

All-Kill matches are Best of 7 maps, with each team choosing a starting player. The team ranked higher in the ladder tells their first player first.

The first map is agreed on via the challenge, or both teams agree on random so the map is randomly picked by the website. The next map is picked by the losing side. The same map cannot be played twice.

The winner of a map stays on to the next map, the loser is replaced with a new player that has not played before. The first team to win 4 maps, wins the match.

When entering results, enter the overall map wins.

3. Maps

Unless otherwise specified, the map veto rules are as follows

3.1. Veto

  • The highest seeded contestant decides who goes first
    • If there is no highest seeded contestant, a coin flip determines who decides to go first
  • BO1: Contestants take it in turn removing maps from the pool until one map remains
  • BO3+
    • Contestants take it in turns removing maps until the number of maps needed remain
    • Contestants take it in turns picking maps from the maps remaining
    • Maps are played in the order they were picked, the remaining map is played last, if needed

3.2. Fixed map

  • First map is fixed and is the only map played in a BO1
  • In a BO3+ the loser of each map may pick the next map

4. Match rules

4.1. Ingame

4.1.1. Player drops

If a player drops, the match must continue with the in-game tool "recover from replay" once contact with the opponent is made.

4.1.2. Re-host

In a re-hosted game each player has to chose the same race as they picked in the original game.

4.1.3. Pausing the game

If a player pauses a game they must state the reason for the interruption and how long it will approximately take. The game can only be resumed by the player that paused the game after they asks their opponent if they are ready.

Violation of this rule are handled as unsportsmanlike behavior and can lead to a re-game.

4.1.4. Observers

Observers are allowed only if both players agree. Exception to this rules are ESL admins and people that are explicitly allowed to observe by an admin (e.g. shoutcasters or streamer). Under no conditions is it allowed to play with referees other those decided by an admin.

Players should only allow observers they trust. It is not allowed to protest after a match to complain about observers that were allowed in the game.

4.1.5. Surrender

The only way to surrender a match is to using the surrender function in-game. Saying "gg" or similar does not count as surrender. If your opponent types "gg" or similar while you believe they are at a disadvantage, you should continue to play to win, until the game is won, or they have surrendered.

4.1.6. Illegal Actions

Any actions that result in an unfair advantage are illegal. This includes bug using of any kind.

5. Match media

All match media (screenshots, demos, etc) must be kept for at least 14 days. In general, you should upload the match media from a match to the match page as soon as possible. Faking or manipulating match media is of course forbidden and will result in severe penalties. Match media should be named clearly based on what it is. It is not possible to file a protest or write a support ticket to complain about bad match media naming. However, if an admin is hindered in their work because of bad match media names then it can be punished for.

5.1. Demos/Replays

Both players are responsible for uploading the replay of the match to the match page as soon as possible after the match.

6. Penalty points

In general, a player can receive up to 6 penalty points, and a team up to 4 penalty points per match, unless a single violation has a higher punishment. A team is only punished once per violation, regardless of how many players. Where a player or team receives penalty points for multiple violations, the penalty points are added together.
