This is a living document and is subject to change at the discretion of ESL Administration.

General Understanding of the Rulebook

The following rulebook is a guide document that is valid for all stages of the tournament. Admins reserve the right to make amendments to the rulebook with or without prior notice to the players. Admins are the decision-makers for all cases and disputes which may occur and are not written in this rulebook.

1. General Rules

1.1 Agreements

Certain agreements between participants are allowed to slightly differ from the ESL rules. Agreements that differ greatly from ESL rules are however not allowed. Please note that the ESL rules were made to ensure a fair match for all participants. You are not allowed to file a protest after the match if you think that the agreements made before the match, in the end, resulted in a disadvantage for your team. Rules that can be changed with agreements are explicitly stated. Rules that do not explicitly state they can be changed by agreement, cannot have agreements made. All arrangements between participants made in addition to the ESL rules have to be written down in the match comments. The other participant has to confirm the arrangements also in the comments. To avoid abuse of the edit function, a third comment must be written. Please also keep screenshots and/or log files of your arrangements. If you do not fulfill these requirements, any protests or supports  concerning arrangements will be rejected.

By participating in any series in the Mobile Open you agree to participate in the Finals if you qualify.

Players are required to begin any preparations needed to reach the finals. This means, having identification that allows you to travel available to verify all participants in the live Finals. This includes but is not limited to, photo ID, state-issued ID, Passport, and Visa. More information in section 1.7.

1.2 Prize Money

This text is currently a filler. Once the new payment system is in place this section will be updated with more information regarding prize payments.

Players have the option for their prize money to be paid individually or to an organization. If prize money is to be paid to a team or organization, please notify [email protected] with your name, your alias, the team or organization's legal name, email the prizing information should be sent to, contact name that will be respnoding to emails, the country which the team and organization is located, and a statement saying you consent to all prize money going to the party which you have outlined in the email. Failure to do so may result in your prize payment taking longer due to restarting the affected payment process.

1.3 Game Version

All players must install the newest version of the game in order to participate in tournaments hosted by ESL. Updates must be installed before the tournament starts.

1.3.1 Patch

All online matches will be played on the patch available on the live servers at the time of a match. All offline matches will be played on the tournament server.

1.4 Rule Changes

The League administration reserves the right to amend, remove, or otherwise change the rules outlined in this Rulebook, without further notice. The League administration also reserves the right to make a judgment on cases that are not explicitly supported, or detailed in this Rulebook, or to make judgments that even go against this Rulebook in extreme cases, to preserve fair play and sportsmanship.

1.5 Confidentiality

The content of protests, support tickets, discussions or any other correspondence with league officials and administrators are deemed strictly confidential. The publication of such material is prohibited without prior written consent from the League administration.

1.6 Alcohol or Other Psychoactive Drugs

To play a match, be it online or offline, under the influence of alcohol or other psychoactive drugs, even if not among the punishable substances, is strictly prohibited, and may lead to severe punishment.

1.7 Names, Symbols, and Sponsors

ESL reserves the right to forbid the use of unwanted names and/or symbols in their competitions. Any legally protected words or symbols are generally forbidden unless the owner gives permission. No advertisement or promotion of sponsors that are solely or widely known for pornographic, drug use or other adult or mature themes and products is allowed in connection to the ESL league. User-generated content will be governed by the terms and conditions of Pubg Mobile.

1.8 Impersonation

All players must use their own accounts. Players are not allowed to participate with foreign accounts, nor to encourage other players to do so. Any team that is found to have a player using another player or account is will be considered an impersonation case. The team will be disqualified from the season and the players involved will be given between 2 and 6 penalty points depending on the situation as well as being barred from participating for the rest of the season in any capacity.

1.9 Deny of Participation

ESL and Tencent reserve the right to deny the participation of any team or player for any reason and precaution.

3. Registration & Eligibility

In order to participate in tournaments hosted by ESL, you must meet the following requirements below. If you do not meet these requirements you will be deemed ineligible. In case a team that does not fulfill the requirements qualifies through this tournament, the team will lose the right to the qualifier and the next top qualified team will take their place.

3.1 Age Restrictions

All players must be at least 16 years of age or older.

  1. If a player is found to currently be participating or previously participated in any matches while under the age of 16 any and all team and the members will be disqualified from the season and will forfeit any money that was, or would have been made during that season.

If the disqualification occurs during Phase 1 of the season any players of the team that are not underage will be allowed to form a new team or join other teams provided there is no clear evidence of any members of the team trying to deceive the admin team in order to cover up the use of an underage player.

  • More information on participating while underage and teams using an underage player can be found in section 11.8 of this rulebook.

If a player is under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must be able to accompany the minor to a live competition.

If a parent or legal guardian is unable to travel a temporary guardian who can travel will need to be appointed and proper documentation will need to be provided to ESL.

ESL will not be responsible for providing the documentation necessary for appointing a temporary guardian.

3.2 Residency Restrictions

All players must be residents and be participating from either Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, or the United States of America

3.3 ESL Play Registration

All players must be registered on the ESL Play platform in order to participate in any ESL Mobile Open sanctioned event.

3.4 Devices

Players must play using their phone or tablet, emulators are not permitted.

5. Teams

Teams must play with the roster they are registered for the duration of the season once the transfer period has passed. Rosters cannot be changed outside of the designated transfer period. Please be sure to check the account information carefully. Incorrect information will result in the score not being calculated, zero points being awarded to the team for that match, and removal from the Cup if incorrect information is found.

6. Rosters & Team Locks

6.1 General Roster Overview

Teams may only have 4 starters, and a maximum 1 substitute (5 players total) listed on their team page & roster.

Teams are allowed to have an additional member set to either Team-Manager or Team-Owner. A person set to this role does not count toward the 4 starters and 1 substitute, and thus, is not eligible to play in any match. If they are found to be playing in any match the team will lose all points for the Cup and assessed a warning for the first infraction and will be given penalty points for any additional infractions.

  • If a manager or owner would like to switch into a player role that can only be done during a transfer period via support ticket. Any team found to have switched a manager or owner to a player role outside of the transfer period, and/or without admin approval will be ineligible to compete with that person.

All teams must still abide by the 3 of 5 rule. This means in order to retain all points for a team 3 of the original 5 members must remain on the team throughout the series. (Team-Manager & Team-Owner roles do not count towards the original team roster.)

  • If a player is removed or changed to Team-Manager, or Team-Owner at any point during the series they will no longer count towards the 3 of 5, even if brought back onto the team or moved back to a player position.

If your team has more players than the allowed 5 players (4 starters and 1 substitute) at the time of check-in, your team will be removed from the Cup and be barred from playing until only 5 players remain on the team.

Team roster lock will be enforced through the Finals of all series. In the event of a live Finals, if a team is unable to travel, the next available team will be given the slot.

Rosters and Teams will be locked together upon participating in a team's first Cup and will require a ticket during a transfer period in order for any player to be swapped out.

6.2 - Three (3) of Five (5) Retained Players

You must maintain the 3 of 5 rule throughout the season. Failure to do this will result in all a team's points being nullified.

You must keep at least 3 of your original 5 players for the whole season in order for your team to still be legal under this rule.

Example:

Original Team Roster:  Player 1,2,3,4,5 on roster - Valid Players for 3/5: 1,2,3,4,5

Roster After Transfer Period 1:  Player 1,4,5,6,7 on roster - Valid Players for 3/5: 1,4,5

Roster After Transfer Period 2:  Player 1,2,5,6,7 on roster - Valid Players for 3/5: 1,5 No longer maintains 3 out of 5. Points nullified.

  • This fails the 3/5ths constraint because Players 2, 3, and 4 were removed at SOME point during the season, and only Players 1 and 5 were consistent throughout the 3 transfer periods. You must have at least 3 players from your original roster on your current roster for the duration of the season. Those minimum 3 players must all be in every match.

6.3 - Roster Transfer Period

Roster changes may only be made during the Roster Transfer periods. This means any team that would like to change players or add new players to their roster can only make those changes during the transfer periods by submitting a support ticket in the Mobile Open, Pubg section.

The Transfer Period for this season will be at the following times:

August 16th, 8 pm PT - August 19th, 4 pm PT

August 23rd, 8 pm PT - August 26th, 4 pm PT

August 30th, 8 pm PT - September 2nd, 4 pm PT

Once your support ticket has been submitted a member of the admin team will respond in your ticket informing you that your team has been unlocked as soon as we are able. You may make any changes during that time and your team will be locked once the end of the transfer period comes.

  • If for any reason the ticket is not answered after being submitted to the correct support section and the ticket was submitted within the transfer period the admin team will accept the transfer request as valid and unlock the team in order for the requested change to occur.

Teams cannot use a new player in a match until after the change to their roster page has been completed. If any team is found to have used a player in a match before the roster unlock was approved and the change submitted on the team’s play page the team will be disqualified from the play day(s) for the use of an illegal player and will 0 points for any days the illegal player participated.

7. Gameaccounts

7.1 - Pubg Mobile Nickname

All in-game names and ESL play gameaccounts must use the characters listed below, there will be no exceptions to the list. If you currently have standard or special characters outside the provided list you must change your in-game name and update your gameaccount on ESL play in order to be allowed to participate.

Players and teams CANNOT change their in-game or ESL play name after competing in a Cup.

  1. No in-game name changes will be allowed at any point during the season unless the name is illegal to use or a team has been picked up by a new organization. Once a player has participated in a Cup, as either a starter or a sub, their in-game name and gameaccount CANNOT be changed unless explicitly instructed to by a member of the admin team that it must be fixed due to having illegal characters, the in-game name and ESL play gameaccount not matching, or use of an inappropriate name.

If a player is found to have changed gameaccounts or in-game names at any point during the series without being explicitly told to by the admin team the player will be considered ineligible to participate until the name is changed back both in the game and on the ESL play site.

If a team is picked up by a new org or dropped from an old one please submit a support ticket to the Cup you will be participating in. You MUST provide valid proof of the acquisition of your team by the org (such as the contract the team and org have signed) as well as the name switches that all players will be making in-game (For example: ESLLarch --> MOLarch)

Once we have valid proof of the acquisition the team will be allowed to change its name and picture on the ESL play site, and the players on the team will be allowed to change just the team tag in their in-game name and gameaccount on the play site. Players WILL NOT be allowed to change their alias, only the team tag before or after their alias may be changed. If a team is found to have changed their in-game name incorrectly

All participant's names must be appropriate. If your name is deemed inappropriate you must have the new name approved and change it in the window given by the admin team. If the name is not changed in that time you will risk disqualification and having both you and your team penalized as follows:

  • The first time is a warning, second-time disqualification with possible prize money repercussions as well as bans.

Playing with an unregistered player or a player with an inaccurate gameaccount listed will result in your team being removed from match lobbies and earning 0 points for that day.

Your in-game name and game account must only contain only the following characters:

Please be aware though, if your gameaccount on ESL Play does not EXACTLY match what we see in-game, your team will not gain any points for the match day.

If the admin team finds any gameaccounts and in-game names that do not match exactly your team will earn 0 points for the day and be barred from playing in the active matchday.

It is every play and team's responsibility to ensure that all ESL gameaccount and in-game name match before the matchday begins. If you cannot get your ESL gameaccount to match your in-game name, you should change your name accordingly.

7.2 - Pubg Mobile ID

All in-game Character ID numbers and ESL play Pubg Mobile ID Gameaccounts must match EXACTLY. If any player is found to have an ID that do not match the team will earn 0 points for the day and be barred from playing in the active matchday.

Players and teams CANNOT change their in-game or ESL play ID number after competing in a Cup.

  1. No Character ID number changes will be allowed at any point during the season. Once a player has participated in a Cup, as either a starter or a sub, their in-game character ID and gameaccount CANNOT be changed unless explicitly instructed to by a member of the admin team that it must be fixed.

If a player is found to have changed gameaccounts IDs or in-game Character ID's at any point during the series without being explicitly told to by the admin team the player will be considered ineligible to participate for the remander of the season. We consider this as an account change and you will be treated as a different player regardless of the reason for the change. This would be considered an illegal roster change and your team will lose all points for the phase they are in and rist being barred from play for the active phase.

8. Player Streaming

Players are allowed to stream matches in the Open & Closed Qualifiers (Phases 1 & 2) provided that they have a minimum 5-minute delay on the stream.

If any player is found to be streaming without meeting the minimum delay requirement they will be forced to stop the stream for that match day.

  1. The first offense will be a warning.

The second offense will be loss of points for the match day and 2 penalty points to the player and their team.

A third offense will be 2 additional penalty points to the player and team and a week-long ban from participating in matches.

9. Player Identification

Players are required to begin any preparations needed to reach Finals. This means, having identification that allows you to travel available to verify all participants in the event of a live Finals.

10. Communication & Support

10.1 Support

The primary method of communication and support for the ESL Mobile Open is the ESL Mobile Open Discord.

ALL TEAMS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE AT LEAST 1 REPRESENTITIVE FROM THEIR TEAM IN THE SERVER AT THROUGHOUT THE SEASON.

This is to keep each team up to speed on rule changes, see posted announcements, and to communicate with admins and members of other teams. Some information may be communicated exclusively in this Discord server. It is the responsibility of each player to ensure they are aware of officially posted information in the Discord server.

You may also use the match chat, located on the bottom right-hand side of ESL Play, or submit a support ticket for any assistance during the cup.

10.2 Admins

All participants must adhere to the decisions and rules of the tournament organizers, admins, and referees. All decisions are final, except in cases where the option to appeal is clearly stated.

10.3 Cheating

Any form of cheating will not be tolerated. When cheating is uncovered the team in question will immediately be removed from the tournament and banned from all competitions for 6 months. Players may be requested to install anti-cheat software on their devices for the duration of the tournament. Examples of cheating include, but are not limited to:

10.3.1 DDoSing

Limiting, or attempting to limit, another participant’s connection to the game through a Distributed Denial of Service attack or any other means.

10.3.2 Match Fixing

Attempting to intentionally alter the results of a match by losing or otherwise trying to affect the results.

10.3.3 Software or Hardware

Using any software or hardware to gain benefits that are otherwise not available in-game. Examples include, but are not limited to: any 3rd party software (unapproved apps that manipulate gameplay), playing on private servers, scripted attacks.

10.4 Disqualification

ESL reserves the right to disqualify teams and players. Any team found to be using a known exploit will forfeit their match upon the first occurrence of the exploit. If the team is found to use another known exploit for a second time, and it is determined to have been done on purpose, they will be removed from the event and barred from any future events.

10.5 Travel Participation Requests

Any play participating in the Mobile Open series will be given the opportunity to submit a travel participation request in the event that they will be traveling outside of the specified countries of participation for the series. This request must be submitted at least 1 week ahead of the travel date in order for the request to be reviewed. Acceptance of the request will be based on the information provided by the player for why they are traveling, and the amount of time the player will be out for travel. Each request will be accepted or rejected on a case by case basis. The maximum amount of time for a player to participate from another region outside of the 4 countries allowed in the series will be 1 week. Any more time than that and the request will be rejected and the player will be ineligible to participate.

11. Player Conduct

Players are expected to conduct themselves professionally throughout the entirety of the ESL Mobile Open, including, but not limited to, inside and outside of the tournament, qualifiers, interviews, and the Finals. Warnings or penalties may be issued for any of the following:

11.1 Language

In all languages, Players may not use obscene gestures, profanity and/or racist comments in-game chat, lobby chat, or live interviews. This includes abbreviations and/or obscure references. League Administrators reserve the right to enforce this at their own discretion. These rules also apply for forums, emails, personal messages, and Discord channels.

11.2 Behavior

Persons are required to behave in a sportsmanlike manner towards other competitors, members of the League Administration team, media, and fans.

11.3 In-Game Presence

Players involved in the ESL Mobile Open are required to follow all in-game rules that are part of PUBG Content Creation – Teams are responsible for the assurance of the appropriateness of the content that they produce including, but not limited to Social Media Presence, Videos, Streams, and Interviews. Disputes and Redress – Any general disputes a person may have with the current operation of the League should first be addressed by messaging a League Operator via Discord. Failure to follow the proper procedure for disputes will result in denial of the dispute and the possibility of further penalties.

11.4 Illegal substances and PED’s

Team members may not be under the influence or in possession of illegal substances or performance-enhancing drugs (PED). In addition to the standard Code of Conduct penalties, any offending Players may be handed over to the authorities in accordance with the local laws and/or disqualified from participation.

11.5 Alcohol

Team members that are intoxicated during any event may be disqualified at the discretion of the Tournament Organizer.

11.6 Cheating

Any form of cheating will not be tolerated. If the Organizer determines that a Player is cheating, the Player or team will be immediately disqualified and removed from the tournament and may be restricted from participating in future events. Software Exploitation – Any intentional use of any bugs or exploits in the game may result in a forfeit of the Match and disqualification from the tournament. Bugs and exploits will be determined at the discretion of

Tencent and/or the Tournament Organizer.

11.7 Collusion and Match Fixing

Players are not allowed to intentionally alter the results of any Match. If the organizer determines that a Player or team is colluding or Match fixing, the Player or team will be immediately disqualified and removed from the ESL Mobile Open and may be restricted from participating in future events. Players must compete to the best of their ability at all times.

11.8 Underage Player

Any team found to have any underage player(s) will be disqualified from the Mobile Open.

All prizing that would have been earned will by any members of the team will be forfeited and no prizing will be awarded.

Additionally the team will recieve a one(1) season ban from the Mobile Open and the underage player will be banned for two(2) full seasons beyond when they turn 16.

11.9 Falsifying Region

Any team found to have any player(s) residing and/or participating from a region outside of the US, Canada, Mexico, or Puerto Rico while falsely claiming to be from one of these countries will be disqualified from the Mobile Open.

All prizing that would have been earned will by any members of the team will be forfeited and no prizing will be awarded.

Additionally the team will recieve a minimum one(1) season ban from the Mobile Open and the ineligible player will be banned for at least two(2) seasons. They will only be allowed to participate after the ban if they can prove they have fully relocated to the allowed regions.

Teams will recieve 4 penalty points and players will recieve 6 penalty points on the play site.

11.10 Gambling

Anyone associated with ESL Mobile Open is forbidden from placing wagers on any Matches or actions in, or around, Player Unknown Battlegrounds.

Unless expressly stated otherwise, offenses and infringements of these Player Conduct rules are punishable, whether or not they were committed intentionally. Attempting to commit any offenses or infringements is also punishable.

12. Disqualification

ESL reserves the right to disqualify teams and players. Any team found to be using a known exploit will forfeit their match upon the first occurrence of the exploit. If the team is found to use another known exploit for a second time, and it is determined to have been done on purpose, they will be removed from the event and barred from any future events.

13. Game Rules

A match can only be restarted with prior admin approval.

Any use of third party software is prohibited during the qualifiers and tournament play. If players violate this rule it will be treated as hacking with the intent to cheat. The team will be disqualified, no prizes will be awarded, and the individuals involved will receive a ban from competing.

Any use of items not obtained through PUBG approved in-game methods (excluding official rewards) or unannounced items is prohibited. If players violate this rule, it will be treated as hacking. The team will be disqualified, no prizes will be awarded, and the individuals involved will receive a ban from competing.

Players may not be naked and should be wearing clothes during any Mobile Open match

14. Match Settings, Format, & Rules

14.1 General Rules

Maps: Erangel, Miramar & Sanhok

Game Mode: TPP

Each team will participate in up to 5 matches each day during the Open Qualifier (Phase 1).

Teams in the Closed Qualifier (Phase 2) will play 5 matches on each of the 6 playdays.

The Playoffs (Phase 3) will have 2 groups of 16 teams play 8 matches over 2 paydays. Each group will have 1 day of 5 matches and a final day of 3 matches.

The Grand Finals (Phase 4) will have 5 matches played on the Finals day.

All matches for a play day are scored cumulatively.

14.2 Match Scoring

14.3 Results

Each team member should take end-of-game screenshots of their results in case of any disputes and/or technical difficulties in the lobbies. Failure to provide said screenshots when requested can lead to disciplinary action and/or loss of points. 15. Technical Issues

Teams are responsible for their own technical issues, including hardware, software and/or internet issues. Matches will not be rescheduled because of technical issues and matches will be played nevertheless.

16. Tiebreakers

In the event of a tie during any phase of the Mobile Open, the ranking will be decided in the order of the following:

  1. Total accumulated kills through all matches in the phase.
  2. Highest point-earning single match in the phase.
  3. Highest amount of kills in a single match in hte phase.
  4. Total kills in the final match of the phase.
  5. Placement in the last-played match of the phase.

17. Live Broadcast

All contents, photos, videos, replays, and other resources generated by players and the PMSC event belong to Tencent. Players accept this condition by agreeing to compete in the ESL Mobile Open.

18. Penalty Point Catalogue

In general, a player and the team can receive up to 6 penalty points per match, unless a single violation has a higher punishment. A team is only punished once per violation, regardless of how many players. Where a player or team receives penalty points for multiple violations, the penalty points are added together.

Matches will only be deleted if the team/player violating the rules won the match. In Cup and League matches default wins are given instead of a match deletion and penalty points.

System rules

1. ESL FFA tournaments

1.1. Concept

The ESL FFA tournaments are intended to resolve the best players or teams during a multiple round free-for-all tournament. Our system calculates points based on your final position in matches and in some cases adding points for game-specific achievements like kills. The players with the highest points overall will be ranked highest. You can read more from our tournament guide.

1.2. No show

In general FFA lobbies will not wait for players for any longer than 5 or 10 minutes depending on the tournament. If a player or team is not in the match when that time has passed they will forfeit that match. Please refer to the specific tournament rules for further details.

1. Global Rules

1.1. General

The league administration has the right to decide outside or even against the rulebook in special cases to guarantee fairplay.

1.2. Code of Conduct

Every participant has to behave with respect towards the representatives of the ESL, press, viewers, partners and other players. The participants are requested to represent esports, the ESL, and their Sponsors honorably. This applies to behavior in-game and also in chats, messengers, comments and other media. We expect players to conduct themselves according to the following values:

  • Compassion: treat others as you would be treated.
  • Integrity: be honest, be committed, play fair.
  • Respect: show respect all other humans, including teammates, competitors, and event staff.
  • Courage: be courageous in competition and in standing up for what is right.

Participants must not engage in harassment or hate speech in any form. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Hate speech, offensive behavior, or verbal abuse related to sex, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, disability, physical appearance, body size, age, or religion.
  • Stalking or intimidation (physically or online).
  • Spamming, raiding, hijacking, or inciting disruption of streams or social media.
  • Posting or threatening to post other people’s personally identifying information (“doxing”).
  • Unwelcome sexual attention. This includes, unwelcome sexualized comments, jokes, and sexual advances.
  • Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior.

Violation of this Code of Conduct will result in penalty points. In the case of repeat or extreme violations, penalties may include disqualification, or banning from future ESL events.

1.2.1. Insults and offensive behaviour

All insults that happen during an ESL-Match or on the ESL platform, may be punished. This includes but is not limited to ingame chat of the corresponding game, guestbooks, forums, Match- or News-Comments, ESL Messages, Match-Chat, game IDs. Insults that happen on external messengers are not taken into account.

Penalties are no longer limited to Penalty Points and barrages, but may also contain the following depending on the incident, location and frequency of the insult:

  • Penalty Points & barrages are given for incidents within ESL-Matches
  • Insults or inappropriate behaviour within Comments or other options for contacting a player, will result in a Forum- & Comment ban

Severe incidents including, but not limited to the following points, may be punished in other ways:

  • Extremist statements
  • Threat of violence
  • Sexual harassment
  • Stalking
  • severe insults
  • pornographic linkings

The right to appeal is only with the injured.

1.2.2. Spamming

The excessive posting of futile, annoying or offensive contributions within the ESL is considered as spamming. Spamming on the website (forums, match comments, player comments, support- and protest pages, etc) is penalized as follows:

  • Written warning for the first offence
  • 1 penalty point + 1 week comment ban for the second spamming incident.
  • 2 penalty points + 2 week comment ban for the third spamming incident.
  • 3 penalty points + 3 week comment ban for the fourth and any further spamming incidents.

The decisive factor therefore is the amount of active penalties for spamming.

1.2.3. Public behaviour

All participants shall abstain, at all times, from poor, undesirable, or negative behaviour towards anybody involved with the tournament in any way.

All participants shall abstain, at all times, from any action or inaction that brings anybody involved with the tournament in any way into public disrepute, contempt, scandal or ridicule or reduces the public relations or commercial value of any involved party. This includes derogatory comments aimed at ESL, its partners or products in interviews, statements and/or social media channels.

1.3. Matches, competitions, meetings

In all competitions there should be a fair playing field for all players.

Every encounter, whether a ladder match or other competition must be played according to the rules until it is complete and the result on the ESL page entered, or at events the result sheet is completed. Any encounter that did not take place, should be deleted. Matches will be opened only by admins to delete exceptions. Matches that did not take place will be considered fake matches and will be punished.

It is not allowed for participants to bet on matches in their own competition. Betting against yourself (in team leagues: against your own team) will get you (in team leagues: your team) disqualified and the betting player(s) banned.

Players and teams that are already qualified for or participating in an event (e.g. Pro League or any offline event) or the later stages of a tournament (e.g. Open/Challenger League) are not allowed to participate in any of its ongoing or upcoming qualifiers. In the case of a player or team breaching this rule, they will be disqualified from the current qualifier and may face further punishment, up to and including disqualification from the event.

1.4. Game / client

In general, all programs which are not part of the original game, including custom-data and modifications, are not allowed in any ESL game. All external voice programs are allowed (e.g. Teamspeak, Ventrilo etc.). Scripts and changes to the game's configuration are allowed, unless they are partly or completely forbidden by the league specific rules. Programs that provide an advantage during game play (e.g. drivers that allow the removing of walls) are forbidden. Any programs that change the game itself are forbidden.

1.5. Game Coverage

The ESL reserves exclusive right to the coverage of ESL matches. This includes all forms of transmission, including IRC Bots, Shoutcast-streams, HLTV and ESL-TV Broadcasts. The ESL can assign the coverage rights of a match or of several matches to a third party or to the actual players themselves. In this case, terms and conditions would have to be arranged with the ESL management before the match.

In general, the ESL will contact any player or team if they wish to broadcast one of their matches. If no contact is made, individual players are allowed to arrange their own broadcasts. Should the game take place on a server that ESL administrators have no direct access to, it must be made sure that enough slots are available for the according clients.

1.6. Internal Texts

All texts written in either protest or support tickets, or written by the administrators to members of a certain league or tournament, cannot be published without the permission of the ESL.

1.7. Language

The official language of this national section is English. All players should be able to communicate in English and to do so.

2. Fraud/deception

ESL is a member of ESIC, the Esports Integrity Commission. The Esports Integrity Commission is a not for profit members’ association established in 2015 by key esports stakeholders to deal with issues of common interest – in particular the threat that match manipulation and betting fraud and other integrity challenges pose to esports.

Membership of ESIC centres around key Principles that the members have agreed and they have also agreed to be bound by a Code of Ethics to govern their behaviour amongst themselves. ESIC is a historic Commission of businesses that are usually in competition with each other, but recognise that they are all threatened by attacks on the integrity of esports.

2.1. Deception

The attempt to deceive admins or other players with wrong or fake statements, information or data will not be tolerated.

2.2. Other unauthorized offences

Including but not limited to the abusing of bugs in the website.

These penalties are at the discretion of the responsible admin and are penalized according to severity.

2.3. Cheating

All forms of cheating in ESL matches are forbidden and will be penalized by the ESL. Players found cheating outside of the ESL may be barraged on the ESL depending on the evidence available. Note, we do not accept publicly submitted demo or screenshot evidence in these cases. Should it become known to the ESL administrators that any form of cheating was used to the advantage of a player or a team during an ESL match, the ESL reserves the right to punish them to the full extent of the rules available. By breaking any rule a player risks being barred or completely excluded from a specific league or from all leagues. This also includes their team.

The use of programs (or "hacks") or other methods to circumvent, modify or in any way manipulate ESL Anticheat is forbidden. Any use of such programs or methods will be punished as cheating. Even testing of such programs or methods in a match not happening within the ESL will be punished.

2.3.1. Distribution of cheats

Contributing to the distribution of cheats in any way is not allowed on ESL. This includes but is not limited to referring to the name, website or logo of cheats anywhere on ESL, such as player profiles, team profiles, forums, comments, guest book entries, etc.

Violating this rule will be punished from a warning up to exclusion from ESL.

2.3.2. Cheating Sanctions

Disqualification from the tournament, results voided, forfeiture of prize money, ban between 2 years and lifetime depending on age and level of player and nature/size of tournament and how the player cheated. Cheating at a professional level (i.e. where qualification for a professional event is at stake) should normally result in a 5 year ban, but, in aggravating circumstances, can result in a lifetime ban.

2.3.3. Rehabilitation

Nevertheless first offenders willing to intensively deal with their situation can get a second chance. More information about the cheater rehabilitation can be found here.

2.4. Match-Fixing/betting fraud

Engaging in any action that improperly influences the outcome of a game or match by any means.

2.4.1. Match-Fixing Sanctions

Results voided, 5 year ban unless significant mitigating factors in line with the ESIC Anti-Corruption Code or, in the presence of aggravating circumstances, a longer ban, forfeiture of prize money and monetary fine (if discovered before the end of a tournament, disqualification).

2.5. Doping

Any kind of doping is forbidden.

2.5.1. Prescribed medication

If players have an active prescription for a substance on the WADA list, they have to send proof to the tournament administration before the first day of the tournament (deadline in local time). They may still be subject to a doping test, but a positive result for the prescribed substance will be disregarded.

2.5.2. Doping Sanctions

Mild cases of doping will be punished with a warning and possibly minor penalty points for the participant. Severe cases (i.e. use of drugs containing performance enhancing substances, like Adderall) will be punished as follows: Results voided, ban of between 1 and 2 years, forfeiture of prize money (if discovered before the end of a tournament, disqualification).

2.6. Competition manipulation and bribery

Bribing or attempting to bribe a referee or organizer or trying to manipulate the competition.

2.7. Second and subsequent offences

For second and subsequent offences, participants should expect far harsher sanctions and in all likelihood a lifetime ban from esports.

3. Accounts

3.1. Player

An ESL Account can only be created if the user is at least six years old. When registering, each player must provide an up-to-date and correct email address and it is the player’s responsibility to keep this up-to-date. To play in a ladder, a method of contact must be available and visible to all users in your player profile.

Also, the permanent residence must be chosen according to the country he/she is currently living in. Should the country differ from his/her nationality, the player can add an additional flag in the settings.

3.1.1. Multiaccounts

Each player in the ESL must only have one account! If a player can not access his account and then creates a new one, then he/she must write a support ticket explaining in detail the reason for not being able to access the account.

3.1.2. Nicknames, Team Names and URL Aliases

We reserve the right to edit Nicknames and/or URL aliases, if they fail to comply with the following requirements.

Nicknames/aliases are forbidden if they:

  • are protected by third-party rights and the user has no written permission
  • resemble or if they are identical to a brand or trademark, no matter whether it has been

registered or not

  • resemble or if they are identical to a real person other than themselves
  • use names of ESL Gaming products
  • resemble or if they are identical to the names of ESL Gaming employees
  • are nonsense

In addition to the above, any nicknames/team names/aliases that are purely commercial (e.g. product names), defamatory, pejorative, offensive, vulgar, obscene, anti-Semitic, inciting hatred, or offending against good manners are forbidden. Using alternative spelling, gibberish or wrong spelling in order to avoid the requirements mentioned above is illegal. We reserve the right to extend, change, exchange or delete these rules if necessary.

3.1.3. Photo

It would be nice if a player's photo clearly shows the face of the player, for adding anything else (graphics, other people, other parts of body, etc.) please use the logo function. For anything else please use the gallery. Photos with weapons are not allowed!

3.1.4. Country

A player's country must be set to their country of residence. Deliberately faking the country of residence is punishable.

If a player's country of residence is changed in order to avoid any country restrictions or if the player is trying to fake or abuse they will be punished with 2 penalty points. If the player does so and plays in a team match, the team will get 3 penalty points and the match is deleted.

3.1.5. Nationality

A player's nationality must be set to their nationality that is proven by a current passport. Deliberately faking nationality is punishable.

3.1.6. Account sharing

Each ESL account is strictly personal and cannot be shared with other ESL users and / or other players that don't have an ESL account. Failure to comply with this rule will result in a ban of up to 6 months.

The original registrant must always be the final user of the account, which cannot be lent or transferred in any case. This will be considered as account sharing or multi account and pursued according to the ESL rules.

3.2. Teams

A team's name does not have to be unique, but the ESL reserves the right to refuse clans with the same or similar names as a well-known clan (e.g. If you named your team “Schroet Kommando" or “Schroet Commando” etc, that would not be allowed).

Names which are restricted by law will not be accepted and will be deleted and punished with penalty points if found. Also, names which go against all forms of etiquette and good manners will not be accepted.

If a team deletes its account because of a certain amount of active penalty points and registers a new account, the penalty points will be transferred to the new account if the team rejoins the same ladder. Furthermore 1 additional penalty will be added for the attempted deception.

The logo must represent the team and have some reference to the team's name or to the team's short handle. Copyrighted logos, or logos which go against etiquette and good manors will not be accepted.

3.2.1. Changing team names

A team can change its name at any time. This also applies when a team is restructured.

Changing a team's name in order to fool other teams is forbidden. Extremely long names, or consistent changing of team names is prohibited and can be punished with penalty points.

3.2.2. Team nationality

In general, during matches of ESL national sections, at all times in-game a team must have more than 50% of its players that are residing in or have the nationality of the country or countries that the national section represents.

3.2.3. Players in team

A player may only play for one team in a tournament or league. Participants in an EPS may not also play in the EAS underneath it.

In tournaments or leagues that require Premium or Trusted then only players with this status are eligible to play. In general players that are marked inactive or honorary on a team page are not eligible to play.

If a homepage is required for a tournament or league then a every player that is on the team account must also be on the homepage.

3.2.4. Sponsors/partnerships

The ESL administration reserves the right to prohibit or remove teams with sponsors or partners that are solely or widely known for pornographic, drug use or other adult/mature themes and products from partaking in ESL Play events at any time.

4. Penalty points

If a player or team disregards or violates one or more of the rules of the league, this can have various consequences depending on the severity of the offence.

As a rule, the penalty points are deleted after a certain period of time. There are different clearance periods depending on the amount of points:

  • 1-2 penalty points: 2 months
  • 3-6 penalty points: 3 months
  • 7 penalty points: 6 months
  • 12 penalty points: 2 years

In addition to penalty points, players and teams may be barred (also known as frozen, locked and barraged) if they have accumulated a certain amount of penalty points:

  • After obtaining 4 penalty points: 1 week barrage
  • After obtaining 8 penalty points: 2 weeks barrage
  • After obtaining 10 penalty points: 1 month barrage

Barred players and teams must finish playing their open matches. They cannot challenge nor be challenged. Barred players may not take part in team matches with exception of 2on2 teams.

Penalties (penalty points/barrages/bans) given on ESL subplatforms (e.g. ESL Europe, ESL America) are valid on all ESL subplatforms.

5. Participation in prize tournaments & pro qualifiers

Unless otherwise explicitly permitted, it is not allowed for employees of ESL Gaming GmbH, its subsidiaries or partners, volunteer or contractor staff or employees that are in some way connected to a respective tournament including sponsors, publishers or game developers, to participate in prize winning tournaments, qualification for prize winning tournaments or pro qualifiers.

Prize winning means any tournaments with physical (e.g. hardware) or money prizes. Those prizes will be offered under the raffle conditions, which regulates claiming and receiving prizes. Tournaments with only virtual ESL awards, such as ESL Premium or awards are exempt.

In case you win prize money, depending on the payment method you choose, there might be fees. ESL will cover the fees on the sender end and recipient will cover the fees on the recipient's end.

6. Penalty Point Catalogue

In general, a player and the team can receive up to 6 penalty points per match, unless a single violation has a higher punishment. A team is only punished once per violation, regardless of how many players. Where a player or team receives penalty points for multiple violations, the penalty points are added together.
