Game rules
1. Introduction
Given the ongoing COVID-19 situation across the globe, PUBG is continuing to prioritize player and staff health and safety over offline competition. The two (2) ESL PUBG Masters events in 2022 provide players and organizations a way to continue to participate in high-level online regional competition, supplementary to the two (2) PUBG Continental Series (“PCS”) events in 2022.
These combined four (4) events represent the highest level of regional PUBG competition in 2022, with a total prize pool of $740,000 awarded to teams in the Americas region. Additionally, these four (4) events allow teams to qualify into the PUBG Global Championship (PGC) 2022, with later events awarding more PGC Qualification points.
In 2022, the North America and Latin America sub-regions are combined into one Americas region, with separate Regional Playoffs that culminate in a combined Grand Final event.
2. SUPER and ESL PUBG Masters Rulebook
The ESL PUBG Masters Americas Phase 2 Rulebook (“Rulebook”) should be read and interpreted in conjunction with the Standard and Universal PUBG Esports Ruleset (“SUPER”). SUPER will supersede any conflict in rules or interpretations between the Rulebook and SUPER.
3. Competition System
To qualify for the ESL PUBG Masters Latin America (LATAM) and North America (NA) Regional Playoffs, teams must compete through fully open sub-regional qualifiers, with a maximum of one-hundred and sixty (160) teams in Latin America and North America, spread over multiple rounds in which the top eight (8) teams of each lobby in each round will advance. On the completion of the Round of 16, the top eight (8) teams will advance to their respective Regional Playoff, where they will be joined by sixteen (16) invited teams, based on their placement in the PCS6 Americas Regional Playoffs, Last Chance Qualifier and Grand Final.
To qualify for the ESL PUBG Masters Grand Final, teams must qualify through the ESL PUBG Masters Regional Playoffs. The ESL PUBG Masters Regional Playoffs will be two parallel twenty-four (24) team competitions in North America and Latin America. The twenty-four (24) teams are divided into three (3) groups of eight (8) teams (A, B & C) and will compete for a place in the ESL PUBG Masters Grand Final. The ESL PUBG Masters Grand Final will have a prize pool of $50,000.
The ESL PUBG Masters Regional Playoffs will consist of one (1) week of play, consisting of three (3) days and six (6) matches each day, for a total of eighteen (18) matches with each team playing in twelve (12) matches. At the end of the three (3) days of play, the top eight (8) teams from each sub-region, for a total of sixteen (16) teams, will qualify directly for the ESL PUBG Masters Grand Final. PGC Qualification Points – Rules to Note:
- PGC Qualification Points and any Qualification Benefits are assigned to the Team and in any case of a change of ownership, the Points will transfer to the new owner. For purposes of clarity, if a player leaves the team, the player will not take any Points along with them – all points will remain with the Team so long as no Roster Rules are violated.
- Teams will forfeit their Points and any other Qualification Benefits if they violate any Roster Rules.
- If an entire Team receives a time-based or permanent ban from PUBG Esports that would encompass PGC they will forfeit all Points and Qualification Benefits. If their ban encompasses a PGC Qualification Events in which they would have received a Qualification Benefit, they will forfeit the Qualification Benefits for that PGC Qualification Event. However, the Team would retain their Points so long as the ban does not encompass PGC.
- In the case of a Player(s) ban:
- If the Team is unable to field a full roster, and not in violation of the Roster Rules, the Team will retain all Points and Qualification Benefits.
- If the Team is unable to field a full roster and/or is in violation of the Roster Rules, they will forfeit Qualification Benefits for that PGC Qualification Event.
- If the Team is unable to field a full roster and/or in violation of the Roster Rules for PGC, they will forfeit all Points and Qualification Benefits.
- If a Team does not qualify or participate in a PGC Qualification Event, the Team would still maintain their Points, so long as all Roster Rules and Eligibility Rules are adhered to.
11. Roster Rules
A. General Rules
- Each team will be required to register four (4) players, these four (4) players are considered their “Core Players”, and one (1) optional "Substitute Player". Rosters will be locked at the end of Registration, Monday July 4, 2022 at 11:59pm PT.
- Upon direct invitation to the Regional Playoff:
- Teams must submit their Roster by Wednesday July 13, 2022 at 11:59pm PT and allocate which players are the Core Players and which player is the 5th player* which will be designated as the Substitute Player.
- Upon qualification to the Regional Playoff from the Open Qualifier:
- There was a Substitute Player on the roster during the Open Qualifier, and
- The Substitute Player played at least one match during the Open Qualifier.
- A Team roster is locked and carried over from Open Qualifier, if:
- A Team roster is unlocked if the above qualifications are not met, and the team can add, remove, or change a Substitute Player. The Core Players cannot be removed or changed from the Team.
- Rosters will lock for the Regional Playoff on Wednesday July 13, 2022 at 11:59pm PT.
- Teams must declare a Team Representative and complete the required Team Participation Agreement. Team Representative cannot be an individual associated in any way with another team. Team Representative can be a player of that respective team.
- Upon Qualification to the Grand Final:

- The use of unapproved players or substitutes is strictly prohibited.
B. Seeding/Slot Rules
- For a team to keep their earned spot in the ESL PUBG Masters Americas Phase 2 Regional Playoff, the team must fulfill certain roster requirements based on their roster from their qualifying event.
- Teams must maintain at least a minimum of 50% of their Core Players on their roster to keep their seed / slot for the next Americas event.
- A Substitute Player transitions to a Core Player when he/she has participated in at least 33% of the Regional Playoff or Grand Final Matches based on their most recently locked roster. This would mean the Team has 5 Core Players - the original four (4) Core Players plus the converted Substitute Player.
- In the case where there only four (4) Core Players and the team splits into two (2) teams of two (2) Core Players each, then the following situation will apply:
- If the team is owned by an Organization and/or Corporate Entity, then the Organization and/or Corporate Entity will keep the spot so long as at least two (2) of the Core Players remain on the roster.
- If a team is Player-Owned, i.e. no individual or corporate entity owns the team, then the Team Representative will act as the “Owner” in this situation and the Team Representative will keep the spot, as long as at least (2) of the Core Players remain on the roster.
- Organizations can and should protect themselves from losing their seed / slot through their contract with the Core Players, rather than through the Roster Rules. If the Core Players are signed to an Organization through the following event and the Core Players terminate their contracts, the slot will remain with the Organization. If the Organization terminates the contracts, leading them to violate the Roster Rules, their seed / slot will be returned to the Administration. The Administration reserves the right to allocate the seed/slot as they see fit.
- In the case where there are five (5) Core Players, the team must keep three (3) out of five (5) Core Players to retain their seed / slot.
- If any team has a question on this rule, please reach out to the Administration.

All Participants must abide by the ESL platform Website and Game Accounts rules as specified on the ESL website. SUPER and Rulebook will supersede any conflict in rules or interpretations between the Platform Rules, Rulebook and/or SUPER.
13. Pre-Match
A. Hardware, Software and Internet Connections
When a team checks in, they should be prepared to begin the match immediately. All hardware, software and Internet issues should be solved by the player prior to check in. If any technical issues arise, matches will not be restarted or delayed.
Players are responsible for downloading the necessary game clients and updates to the servers/clients. Match start times will not be delayed due to any individual client or game issues.
All players should adjust settings and/or their hardware set up prior to checking in. Hosts will not wait for players to adjust settings or hardware before starting matches.
B. Check-In
It is the teams’ responsibility to ensure they check in by the required time. Timings and lobby information are subject to change, so it is every teams’ and individual player’s responsibility to update themselves on Discord servers before the Competition/round/match starts regarding any changes.
If a team is missing from the lobby at the match start time, the match will be started without them. All matches will be played as per the prescribed timings, so the teams must join the new game lobby and be prepared to start as soon as possible upon completion of the prior match.
It is the responsibility of each team captain to read discord for important messages regarding the lobby they are assigned to. This is especially important in the early part of each new game if a server needs to be restarted.
14. During a Match
A Disconnections
A player is allowed to reconnect if they are disconnected. However, there will be no restarts for disconnections once the match has started. A match has officially started once all 64 players have entered the lobby, are aboard the plane and the flight path has started.
Once a match has begun, the match can only be restarted if:
- More than 10 players in the lobby did not make it into the game.
- If all players are marked as “#unknown”
- If the lobby host doesn’t make it into the game.
The above can be overruled by the lobby host if he/she sees fit.
B. Server Crash
If a server crashes mid-match, the match will be restarted.
C. Replay and Match Materials
All players must have the replay function enabled in-game for the Competition. All replays and screenshots from the matches need to be saved for 14 days from the date the tournament ended. The Administration has the right to request the replay or screenshot at any time within these 14 days.
To find your replays: press “Windows Key + R” and type “%localappdata%\TslGame\Saved\Demos”.
D. Bugs
In-game bugs are treated as part of the game. In the case of a bug negatively affecting a player, there will be no restart or remedy available to the player.
All problems and bugs encountered on any of the ESL web pages currently in use should be reported as soon as possible to a Community mod or the bugs channel on the ESL Discord. This will allow ESL the best chance to assist you as a player with the issue.
E. Cheats
The use of cheats is forbidden during the Competition. The use of a cheat will result in bans and/or disqualifications. For purposes of clarity, a cheat is any program, software, code or hack that gives players a competitive advantage over their opponent. Examples of cheats include:
- ESP
- Radar hacks
- Wallhacks
- Speedhacks
- Aimhacks
- Hitbox manipulation
- Teleportation
- The usage of a bug/bugs to gain an advantage versus your opponents
- Game file editing to remove grass or other aspects from the game
- All 3rd party software or tools that are not allowed by the game publisher and that can give an unfair advantage to a player or team is classed as cheating and is not allowed. Examples of software that are not allowed are ReShade, SweetFX, and VibranceGUI.
If a team uses a player that has an active ban by PUBG the team will be disqualified from the tournament.
The Administration reserves the right to monitor any player as they deem fit during the Competition and players agree to be cooperative during any investigation or review into a player’s activities. Uncooperative actions from a player may result in a guilty verdict in any allegation of cheating.
F. In Game Skins
Administration reserves the right to request players to equip their in-game characters with specific items at their discretion. Such items will be provided to the players through the Esports Server and informed through Discord in advance.
G. Communication / Match Support
As mentioned earlier, all hardware, software and internet/network issues are the sole responsibility of the player. Hence, match support for the Competition is limited to the discord and lobby host. The discord and lobby hosts are there to assist you in your questions related to the Competition, rulings and other participation questions.
In all your communications pre, during and after the matches, the toxic behavior rules are to be followed.
15. Post-Match:
A. Result
Official results will be posted on the website and ESL platform as per regular procedures. Should teams have any questions or concerns regarding results, please raise the issue on Discord which will be followed up accordingly. Any further complaints can be filed following the “Protest/Escalations” procedure in Section 15B.
B. Protests / Escalations
Participants who wish to contest a ruling from the Host, believe a rule has been violated, or believe tournament integrity has been jeopardized in any way (“Disputing Party”) may make a request to open a dispute. A dispute must not delay an upcoming match unless the dispute has the potential to impact the qualification or elimination for the upcoming match, at the sole discretion of the Administration.
The procedure to open and resolve a dispute is as follows:
- A written statement must be provided to Host Lead or Overseer within one (1) hour of the completion of the match day in which the dispute pertains. The statement, at its minimum, must explain the Disputing Party’s dispute and basic details of the situation.
- Based on the situation, Administration will determine if the dispute is clearly addressed by the Rules. If so, the dispute will be addressed accordingly. If not, Administration will take necessary steps to establish a fair and judicious ruling on the manner.
- The ruling on the dispute must be decided prior to the following match day, or before the final rankings are calculated for that respective stage, whichever happens first.
- At this point, the ruling will become final.
C. Breaks between Matches
Matches will be conducted as per the schedule. Players must enter the lobby as quickly as possible after the completion of the previous match. Hosts will not delay the start of the matches for late arriving players. Failure to return to the lobby on time may subject the player to penalties.

System rules
1. ESL FFA tournaments
1.1. Concept
The ESL FFA tournaments are intended to resolve the best players or teams during a multiple round free-for-all tournament. Our system calculates points based on your final position in matches and in some cases adding points for game-specific achievements like kills. The players with the highest points overall will be ranked highest. You can read more from our tournament guide.
1.2. No show
In general FFA lobbies will not wait for players for any longer than 5 or 10 minutes depending on the tournament. If a player or team is not in the match when that time has passed they will forfeit that match. Please refer to the specific tournament rules for further details.
General rules
1. Global Rules
1.1. General
The league administration has the right to decide outside or even against the rulebook in special cases to guarantee fairplay.
1.2. Code of Conduct
Every participant has to behave with respect towards the representatives of the ESL, press, viewers, partners and other players. The participants are requested to represent esports, the ESL, and their Sponsors honorably. This applies to behavior in-game and also in chats, messengers, comments and other media. We expect players to conduct themselves according to the following values:
- Compassion: treat others as you would be treated.
- Integrity: be honest, be committed, play fair.
- Respect: show respect all other humans, including teammates, competitors, and event staff.
- Courage: be courageous in competition and in standing up for what is right.
Participants must not engage in harassment or hate speech in any form. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Hate speech, offensive behavior, or verbal abuse related to sex, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, disability, physical appearance, body size, age, or religion.
- Stalking or intimidation (physically or online).
- Spamming, raiding, hijacking, or inciting disruption of streams or social media.
- Posting or threatening to post other people’s personally identifying information (“doxing”).
- Unwelcome sexual attention. This includes, unwelcome sexualized comments, jokes, and sexual advances.
- Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior.
Please refer to the AnyKey Keystone Code to learn more about good sporting behavior. Refer to the ESIC Code of Conduct for detailed conduct rules and penalties
Violation of this code of conduct will result in possible exclusion of the offending player from current tournaments in which they are participating, and may result in additional penalties thereafter and also lose their right to receive any winnings. In the case of repeated or extreme violations, penalties may include disqualification or banning from future ESL events.
1.2.1. Insults and offensive behaviour
All insults that happen during an ESL-Match or on the ESL platform, may be punished. This includes but is not limited to ingame chat of the corresponding game, guestbooks, forums, Match- or News-Comments, ESL Messages, Match-Chat, game IDs. Insults that happen on external messengers are not taken into account.
Penalties are no longer limited to Penalty Points and barrages, but may also contain the following depending on the incident, location and frequency of the insult:
- Penalty Points & barrages are given for incidents within ESL-Matches
- Exclusion of the offending player from the current tournaments in which they are participating*
- Insults or inappropriate behaviour within Comments or other options for contacting a player, will result in a Forum- & Comment ban
Severe incidents including, but not limited to the following points, may be punished in other ways:
- Extremist statements
- Threat of violence
- Sexual harassment
- Stalking
- severe insults
- pornographic linkings
The right to appeal is only with the injured.
* Another player registered on the teamsheet may replace the player if the tournament rules allow it. If more than one player of the same team is excluded, the team is disqualified for the current tournaments in which it participates.
1.2.2. Spamming
The excessive posting of futile, annoying or offensive contributions within the ESL is considered as spamming. Spamming on the website (forums, match comments, player comments, support- and protest pages, etc) is penalized as follows:
- Written warning for the first offence
- 1 penalty point + 1 week comment ban for the second spamming incident.
- 2 penalty points + 2 week comment ban for the third spamming incident.
- 3 penalty points + 3 week comment ban for the fourth and any further spamming incidents.
The decisive factor therefore is the amount of active penalties for spamming.
1.2.3. Public behaviour
All participants shall abstain, at all times, from poor, undesirable, or negative behaviour towards anybody involved with the tournament in any way.
All participants shall abstain, at all times, from any action or inaction that brings anybody involved with the tournament in any way into public disrepute, contempt, scandal or ridicule or reduces the public relations or commercial value of any involved party. This includes derogatory comments aimed at ESL, its partners or products in interviews, statements and/or social media channels.
1.3. Matches, competitions, meetings
In all competitions there should be a fair playing field for all players.
Every encounter, whether a ladder match or other competition must be played according to the rules until it is complete and the result on the ESL page entered, or at events the result sheet is completed. Any encounter that did not take place, should be deleted. Matches will be opened only by admins to delete exceptions. Matches that did not take place will be considered fake matches and will be punished.
It is not allowed for participants to bet on matches in their own competition. Betting against yourself (in team leagues: against your own team) will get you (in team leagues: your team) disqualified and the betting player(s) banned.
Players and teams that are already qualified for or participating in an event (e.g. Pro League or any offline event) or the later stages of a tournament (e.g. Open/Challenger League, but not Sony Open Series) are not allowed to participate in any of its ongoing or upcoming qualifiers. In the case of a player or team breaching this rule, they will be disqualified from the current qualifier and may face further punishment, up to and including disqualification from the event.
1.4. Game / client
In general, all programs which are not part of the original game, including custom-data and modifications, are not allowed in any ESL game. All external voice programs are allowed (e.g. Teamspeak, Ventrilo etc.). Scripts and changes to the game's configuration are allowed, unless they are partly or completely forbidden by the league specific rules. Programs that provide an advantage during game play (e.g. drivers that allow the removing of walls) are forbidden. Any programs that change the game itself are forbidden.
1.5. Game Coverage
The ESL reserves exclusive right to the coverage of ESL matches. This includes all forms of transmission, including IRC Bots, Shoutcast-streams, HLTV and ESL-TV Broadcasts. The ESL can assign the coverage rights of a match or of several matches to a third party or to the actual players themselves. In this case, terms and conditions would have to be arranged with the ESL management before the match.
In general, the ESL will contact any player or team if they wish to broadcast one of their matches. If no contact is made, individual players are allowed to arrange their own broadcasts. Should the game take place on a server that ESL administrators have no direct access to, it must be made sure that enough slots are available for the according clients.
1.6. Internal Texts
All texts written in either protest or support tickets, or written by the administrators to members of a certain league or tournament, cannot be published without the permission of the ESL.
1.7. Language
The official language of this national section is English. All players should be able to communicate in English and to do so.
2. Fraud/deception
ESL is a member of ESIC, the Esports Integrity Commission. The Esports Integrity Commission is a not for profit members’ association established in 2015 by key esports stakeholders to deal with issues of common interest – in particular the threat that match manipulation and betting fraud and other integrity challenges pose to esports.
Membership of ESIC centres around key Principles that the members have agreed and they have also agreed to be bound by a Code of Ethics to govern their behaviour amongst themselves. ESIC is a historic Commission of businesses that are usually in competition with each other, but recognise that they are all threatened by attacks on the integrity of esports.
2.1. Deception
The attempt to deceive admins or other players with wrong or fake statements, information or data will not be tolerated.
2.2. Other unauthorized offences
Including but not limited to the abusing of bugs in the website.
These penalties are at the discretion of the responsible admin and are penalized according to severity.
2.3. Cheating
All forms of cheating in ESL matches are forbidden and will be penalized by the ESL. Players found cheating outside of the ESL may be barraged on the ESL depending on the evidence available. Note, we do not accept publicly submitted demo or screenshot evidence in these cases. Should it become known to the ESL administrators that any form of cheating was used to the advantage of a player or a team during an ESL match, the ESL reserves the right to punish them to the full extent of the rules available. By breaking any rule a player risks being barred or completely excluded from a specific league or from all leagues. This also includes their team.
The use of programs (or "hacks") or other methods to circumvent, modify or in any way manipulate ESL Anticheat is forbidden. Any use of such programs or methods will be punished as cheating. Even testing of such programs or methods in a match not happening within the ESL will be punished.
2.3.1. Distribution of cheats
Contributing to the distribution of cheats in any way is not allowed on ESL. This includes but is not limited to referring to the name, website or logo of cheats anywhere on ESL, such as player profiles, team profiles, forums, comments, guest book entries, etc.
Violating this rule will be punished from a warning up to exclusion from ESL.
2.3.2. Cheating Sanctions
Disqualification from the tournament, results voided, forfeiture of prize money, ban between 2 years and lifetime depending on age and level of player and nature/size of tournament and how the player cheated. Cheating at a professional level (i.e. where qualification for a professional event is at stake) should normally result in a 5 year ban, but, in aggravating circumstances, can result in a lifetime ban.

They may still be subject to a doping test, but a positive result for the prescribed substance will be disregarded.
2.5.2. Doping Sanctions
Mild cases of doping will be punished with a warning and possibly minor penalty points for the participant. Severe cases (i.e. use of drugs containing performance enhancing substances, like Adderall) will be punished as follows: Results voided, ban of between 1 and 2 years, forfeiture of prize money (if discovered before the end of a tournament, disqualification).

A team's name does not have to be unique, but the ESL reserves the right to refuse clans with the same or similar names as a well-known clan (e.g. If you named your team “Schroet Kommando" or “Schroet Commando” etc, that would not be allowed).
Names which are restricted by law will not be accepted and will be deleted and punished with penalty points if found. Also, names which go against all forms of etiquette and good manners will not be accepted.
