These are the rules for the Go4HotG Fall Circuit Cup #4. We make every effort to ensure the rules are complete and up to date but this may not always be the case. You should also check the Info Page and News for additions, exceptions and modifications that may apply. The rules are a guideline and the decisions by admins may differ from them depending on the circumstances. If you have any questions about the rules, please write a support ticket.

1. Eligibility

1.1. Requirements

  • Every team must read, understand, and agree to both the ESL Global Rules (the “Global Rules”) and the ESL Go4HotG Cup Rules (the “Cup Rules”) in order to participate in the ESL Go4HotG Cup.
  • Each player may only use their ESL and in-game account.
  • Each player must be thirteen (13) years of age or older pursuant to the Hand of the Gods Terms of Service.
  • Each player must be present throughout the entire tournament, regardless of whether the team is currently playing, waiting to play, or otherwise occupied.

1.2. Restrictions

  • The ESL Go4HotG Cup is not region locked. As long as players are eligible to create an ESL account, have no in-game or ESL restrictions, and are eligible to play Hand of the Gods under the Terms of Service, they are eligible to compete in the ESL Go4HotG Cups.
  • Cards, Leaders, Pantheons, and other In-Game content may be banned throughout anytime of the ESL Go4HotG Cup. Teams will be made aware of such bans at the earliest convenience of an ESL Administrator.
  • Players may not change their in-game names during a tournament unless complying with an Administrator’s specific request as with Section 1.2.
  • Player Nicknames and URL Aliases must be compliant with the Global Rules Section 3.1.
  • All player names and Sponsorships/Partnerships must be compliant with the Global Rules section 3.2.

2. Tournament Format

2.1. Overall Cup Format

The ESL Go4HotG Cup is in the format of a monthly repeating circuit composed of the following phases:

  • The “Qualifying Phase” features weekly Open Bracket “Qualifier Cups” occurring every Sunday throughout any given month with the exception of the last Sunday of said month. Players earn Go4 Points based on their placement each week.
  • The “Finals” Cup occurs on the last Sunday of every month and features the top eight (8) teams in the cumulative Go4 Point standings from the Qualifying Phase of that month.

Details of check-in and start times are listed under the “Info” tab of each individual Cup page.

2.2. Qualifier Cup Format

  • The Qualifier Cups will be single elimination tournaments.
  • All rounds will follow the Match format of Best of Three (3).
  • Each player is required to bring exactly three (3) decks from unique Pantheons.
  • All players must submit the cards in each of their decks to the Administrators before the tournament starts as detailed in Section 4.3.
  • Additional restrictions may be added at any time before or during a Game or Match by an Administrator if a know or “game breaking” Bug is found.

Each player shall use their best efforts to report any Bugs found immediately at the end of each Game. Any player knowingly using one (1) or more Bugs to their advantage will be immediately disqualified from the Cup and receive penalty points as detailed in Section 8.

  • Due to any possible technical issues with Hand of the Gods or its servers, Games may be rescheduled on an Administrator’s behalf to another date and time outside of the existing schedule.

2.3. Finals Format

  • The Finals Cup will be a Double Elimination tournament.
  • All rounds will follow the Match format of Best of Three (3).
  • Each player is required to bring exactly three (3) decks from unique Pantheons.
  • All players must submit the cards in each of their decks to the Administrators before the tournament starts as detailed in Section 4.3.
  • Additional restrictions may be added at any time before or during a Game or Match by an Administrator if a know or “game breaking” Bug is found.

2.4. Tournament Points

Players will accumulate points throughout participation in the weekly Qualifier Cups. Points will be given accordingly:

  • 1st: 100 points
  • 2nd: 75 points
  • 3rd: 60 points
  • 4th: 40 points
  • 5-8th: 20 points
  • 9-16th: 10 points
  • 17-32th: 5 points
  • 33-64th: 2 points

3. Cup Rules

3.1. Players

  • Players are required to be available to play at any time between the end of the check-in period and until elimination from the Cup.
  • Players must check with an Administrator prior to starting a Match that they are able to do so, and that their Match is not being held for broadcast as detailed in Section 4.4.

High standards are expected from every player competing at all times. Each player must follow the Hand of the Gods Terms of Service that they agreed to upon signing up for an account, including Item 12 (Online Rules of Conduct). Failure to comply with by the Hand of the Gods Terms of Service may result in punitive measures, including but not limited to suspension from future events, and/or termination of your account.

  • Additionally, all players are required to comply with the Section 1.2. Of the ESL Global Rules (“Conduct”). Failure to do so may result in penalties as defined in section 1.2. of the ESL Global Rules (“Insults and offensive behaviour”) including but not limited to the application of Penalty Points to Teams or Players, the consequences of such are listed in Section 4. Of the ESL Global Rules (“Penalty points”).

Every Player is responsible for updating the Administrators with any information pertaining to themselves as well as ensuring that any requested information provided to the requesting Administrator(s) in a timely fashion.

  • Every Player must be available for the at all times to the Administrators for the entire duration of the Tournament.

3.2. Administrator Rules

Administrators will be in charge of initiating the start of each Match.

  • Each and every pause and unpause must be approved by an Administrator pursuant to Section 3.5.

3.3. Spectating and Streaming

  • Abusing spectator, including but not limited to stream sniping and/or ghosting will be treated as cheating. If a team or player is suspected of cheating, the Administrators reserve the right to take punitive measures.

Personal Live Streaming of Games and Matches from a player’s perspective is not permitted under any circumstances. Games and Matches may be recorded and rebroadcast or uploaded at a later date, but only once the official broadcast has been completed.

  • Failure to comply with this may lead to a team’s disqualification and/or a ban of the player streaming in addition to other punitive measures not limited to the addition of Penalty Points.

The semifinals and finals of every cup are spectated for broadcast. Players competing in these rounds must confirm with an Administrator that they are allowed to start their Games before doing so.

  • Players may have their Games or Matches held in order for this to occur as listed in Section 4.5.

4. Match and Game Rules

4.1. Cup Chat

If a Cup Chat is available during a cup, all attempts to contact an admin, including supports or Protests must be made through it. ESL HotG does not take responsibility if attempts made through other channels including support tickets or Protests are not seen in time to be handled.

4.2. General Rules

  • A “Game” is defined as an instance of Tournament competition where the outcome is determined by either the defeat of an opponent, a Player forfeiting, or a Player being disqualified.
  • A “Match” is defined as a full set of Games (e.g. a Best of Three (3) series) that is played until a Player wins a majority of the set.

When a Player is disqualified from a Game, Match or Tournament, they will automatically be given a loss for that said Game or Match as well as potentially being removed from the remainder of the Tournament.

  • Any team that is disqualified from the tournament will forfeit all prizing, outstanding per diem, and benefits that they may have earned relating to the Tournament. Disqualifications may be awarded after the Tournament’s completion OR prior to the Tournament’s completion but after a team’s elimination.
  • Any team that refuses to play Games in the ESL Go4HotG Cups will forfeit all prizing and benefits they may have earned related to that specific Cup.

4.3. Decklist Submission

All players must submit the cards in each of their decks to the Administrators before the tournament starts. You may not change any cards in your decks during the tournament. Deck lists will not be released publicly, but any player found swapping cards will be disqualified and receive punitive measures including but not limited to receiving penalty points as detailed in Section 8.

4.4. Punctuality of Players

The default No-Show time during one day cups is 15 minutes. If a contestant is not ready to play 15 minutes after the scheduled Match time then they should be reported to an Administrator. The Administrator team has the right to extend the waiting time. If a Match from a previous round is not closed before the next round, the default waiting time for a No-Show does not apply and contacting an Administrator is advised.

4.5. Delay of Game

ESL HotG allows a five (5) minute delay between Matches to provide Players to take a break, communicate, and log their Match Media.

  • Players are required to get an Administrator approval for delays that will last longer than five (5) minutes. After five (5) minutes, a Player can open a Protest.

During the Cup, some Games or Matches may be requested to be held or gated based on the Cup Schedule.

  • Teams are required to check with an Administrator and verify whether the next Game is on time.
  • In special cases where Games must be held over thirty (30) minutes, Administrators will be in close contact with the affected teams. Players must remain available to play during this time and be prepared to play upon notice.

In the case of a Player’s client loading slowly or a Game crashing upon loading, the applicable Player must immediately notify an Administrator.

  • The Administrator may issue a remake of the Game if the appropriate conditions have been met as detailed in Section 4.6.

4.6. Player Disconnects

  • If a player disconnects before both players have completed their first turn, the Game will be remade. This may occur up to one (1) time per Player per Game.
  • If the same player disconnects a second time, the Game’s victory will be awarded to their opponent.
  • If a Player’s first disconnect occurs before both Players have completed their third turn, Players must contact an Administrator. The outcome of the Game is up to Administrator discretion.

Any player found to be abusing this Rule will be disqualified and subject to punitive measures as detailed but not limited to those listed in Section 8.

5. Gameplay

5.1. Match Format

Best of Three (3)
A Best of Three (3) Match consists of up to three (3) Games. Whichever Player wins the majority (two (2)) of the Games in the Match proceeds to the next round of the Cup. In the case of the Qualifier Cup Bronze Match, the outcome settles the participating Players’ final position in the Tournament Bracket.

5.2. Decks

  • Each player is required to bring exactly three (3) decks from unique Pantheons.
  • All players must submit the cards in each of their decks to the Administrators before the tournament starts. You may not change any cards in your decks during the tournament. Deck lists will not be released publicly, but any player found swapping cards will be disqualified and receive punitive measures including but not limited to receiving penalty points as detailed in Section 8.
  • Following a successful Game victory, the winning player may not use the same deck they won with in subsequent games in a Match.

The loser of a game may re-use the deck they lost with in subsequent games in a Match.

5.3. Forfeit

A Player can forfeit their Match at any time. If they do so they will be unable to revert the decision made by them. A forfeit must be announced in either the Match chat, Match comments, or in the Protest. Ingame chat is insufficient for this.

5.4. Abandonment of a Match

If your opponent should deliberately leave during a Match, you must make a Protest. You must not enter a result yourself. This may be penalized as entering a fake result. Should the Game have advanced to a point at which an evaluation of the result is possible, a win may be granted to the remaining team. The decision whether a Match can be evaluated or not is in each case decided by the responsible Administrator. This does not apply when an opponent has Surrendered using the in-game function.

6. Illegal Actions

All forms of cheating in ESL Matches are forbidden and will be penalized. This includes but is not limited to the manipulation of game files (including the editing of config files), using unapproved game modifications, or any other method by which one may gain an unfair advantage over another player.

  • Any players found cheating will be penalized and subject to removal from both ESL and Hi-Rez Studios related and sponsored tournaments as well as permanently banned in game.
  • If a player is found cheating during competitive play, all Games that were affected due to cheats will be subject to forfeiture and other potential penalties.

Collusion, intentionally losing a Game, or any other action of similar or reprehensible nature will not be tolerated. Each player shall use their best efforts to compete in a sportsmanlike manner.

  • Abusing spectator, included but not limited to stream sniping and/or ghosting will be treated as cheating. If a player or team is suspected of cheating, the Administrators reserve the right to take punitive measures.
  • A player is not allowed to use another player’s account (smurf) or multiple accounts of their own for any reason whatsoever. Players in violation of doing so will result in punitive measures as described in but not limited to those in Section 8.

7. Match Media

  • All Match Media (screenshots etc.) must be kept for at least 14 days. Match Media should be uploaded to the Match page as soon as possible.
  • Faking or manipulating Match Media is forbidden and will result in severe penalties.
  • It is the responsibility of both teams to ensure the proper Match Media (screenshots) have been uploaded before accepting the result of a Match and moving onto the next round of the tournament.

In general, a player can receive up to 6 penalty points, and a team up to 4 penalty points per match, unless a single violation has a higher punishment. A team is only punished once per violation, regardless of how many players. Where a player or team receives penalty points for multiple violations, the penalty points are added together.

9. Rules Disclaimer

All rules are subject to an Administrator’s interpretation. ESL HotG reserves the right to modify, add, or delete rules at any time, without prior notice and/or reason. Unless otherwise stated, all decisions made by an Administrator pursuant to these rules are final and binding upon all applicable parties. If you do not agree with all of the rules and stipulations listed above, and in the Global Rules you may not participate in the ESL Go4HotG. You represent and warrant to ESL HotG that you have read, understand, and agree to these rules and stipulations, and promise to act in compliance with such rules and stipulations at all times.
