HCS Team Profile with Counter Logic Gaming
The Halo Championship Series Season One Finals are quickly approaching! To get you prepared, we’re back again with another team profile. Today we’ll be checking out the currently number one seeded team, Counter Logic Gaming.
Counter Logic Gaming first competed at the Halo: The Master Chief Collection Launch Invitational at the ESL studio in Burbank this November under the team name “StK,” and has since retained its current roster. The team formed prior to signing with CLG and initially consisted of Thomas “OGRE 2” Ryan, Paul “Snakebite” Duarte, and Mathew “Royal 2” Fiorante accompanied by their coach Chris “Royal 1” Fiorante; Richie “Heinz” Heinz was picked up following PAX Prime 2014.
OGRE 2 is widely regarded as the greatest Halo player of all time due to his consistently high performances as well as his lengthy history with Halo. Tom has been competing since the days of Halo: Combat Evolved and is the only player who has won National Championship titles in every game of the Halo franchise. Heinz is oftentimes referred to as a “complete player,” as his versatile skills allow him to take whichever position needs to be filled, whether that be objective or slayer. In 2009, he was voted Best Overall Player by his fellow pros. Snakebite and Royal 2 both found their best success in Halo: Reach. Starting with MLG Orlando 2011, the duo has not placed any lower than top three while teaming together.
CLG has held onto their current placing since their success at Iron Gaming Columbus in December, and with only two more weeks before the points are locked, they’re looking like a strong candidate for the top seed for the Season Finals at PAX East. If the team can keep the continued dominance we’ve seen from them at previous LAN events, they will certainly be a top contender for first place and $50,000 at the Season One Finals. Now, let’s take a closer look at the players:
Name: Thomas “OGRE 2” Ryan
Name: Richie “Heinz” Heinz
Name: Paul “SnakeBite” Duarte
Name: Mathew “Royal 2” Fiorante
Be sure to watch CLG compete in this Sunday’s tournament, HCS Cup #7, as well as next week’s LAN event, Gamers for Giving.
