Frequently Asked Questions

Eligibility

Teams that are part of the ESEA Intermediate or above leagues can't participate anymore in the ESL Major League.

Group stage

Teams are randomly divided into 4 groups of 5 teams. All groups are played in round robin format and everyone plays vs everyone once. The best 2 teams of each group advance to the playoffs.

Ranking is determined by points, score difference and if necessary direct comparison.

Mode

All matches will be played as Best-of-Three (Bo3) and the maps will be decided by mapveto.

Match days

The match days are pre selected and can be found above in the schedule. However, it's possible to move matches before the default date, otherwise the default date is the mandatory date to play. Not showing up will result in a default loss.

Adding new players

During the group stage teams are allowed to add two new players. During the playoffs teams are allowed to add one more player. The start of the group stage and playoffs is defined by the first default match date. Teams will be locked one day prior to the first default match date. As of then this rule is effective. Every new player must be announed via support ticket. It's recommended to announce new players in a timely manner because the team needs to be unlocked and locked again. It's also recommended to start the season with enough players since it's not possible to add more players than defined above. If a team is not able to play with 5 players this will be handled as a no show. If one player wants to leave a Major League team this needs to be announced via support ticket as well.

ESL Anticheat

ESL Anticheat is mandatory and has to be used during all matches - playing without ESL Anticheat will result in a default loss. ESL Anticheat supports both Windows 7, 8.1 & 10 in 32 and 64 bit. If you are using Windows 8, you can upgrade to 8.1 for free.

Servers

The ESL provides 128 tick high quality servers to play on. It's allowed to play on another server if one party wishes to do so (e.g. due to ping problems). If you do not want to play on the ESL server, you need to have your own server. If both players/teams should have a 128 tick server available, the match is going to be split over two servers. The server of the player/team which is on the left side in the match sheet will be used for the first half of the match. The other server for the second half of the match.

Matchmedia

Each and every member who is playing in a match has to record a POV demo for each map.
