European Qualification for Global Challenge Kiev
Your route to Ukraine
Back from Guangzhou and New York we'd like to share the details on how to qualify for the tournaments of Global Challenge Kiev, taking place from January 19th to 22nd. In early 2012 16 StarCraft II players will again compete for two World Championship slots and $21,000, while 8 LoL and 8 CS1.6 teams will battle it out for $32,000 and $40,000 as well as two World Championship slots each and Ranking Points.

Global Challenge Kiev

We will run several online qualifiers in Europe, America and Asia to determine the 32 participants for our second European event. Since this event will be held in Europe, the respective continent receives the bigger part of participants.

European Qualification

In Europe we will run national qualifiers followed by a three-staged international qualifier system for Counter-Strike 1.6 and StarCraft II. Due to LoL's server split in Europe, there will be East/West qualifiers and a unified final qualifier in this game. Being the host of Global Challenge Kiev, Ukraine receives an own slot for each tournament, which will go to the winner of Ukraine's national qualifier in SC2 and CS1.6, while League of Legends will get a dedicated cup for this slot. We will release details on all American and Asian Qualifiers as soon as possible.

European League of Legends Qualification
Due to the mentioned server split in League of Legends there will be two separate qualification cups for EU West and EU East on November 5th and 12th followed by a final qualifier with all teams taking place on Riot's tourmament server on November 19th.

  • Ukraine Cup on November 4th - Winner qualifies for Kiev
  • West / East Qualifier on November 5th - Top 4 advance to Final Qualifier
  • West / East Qualifier on November 12th - Top 4 advance to Final Qualifier
  • Final Qualifier on November 19th - Top 3 qualify for Kiev

/ National Qualifiers
Between now and November 6th, all European sections will run national qualifiers. Exception are countries that had an ESL Pro Series ending in the last six months since today, those will use the EPS results instead.

/ International Qualifiers
The international qualification will have three stages. Each country, depending on their past results, gets slots for some or all of these rounds, which will be played in bo3 double elimination, except for CS's stage 3, which will switch to bo1. The countries' slot numbers are distributed as seen below.

    Counter-Strike 1.6
  • Stage #1 Cup on November 13th - Top 16 advance to Stage #2
  • Stage #2 Cup on November 20th - Top 16 advance to Stage #3
  • Stage #3 Cup on December 18th - Top 5 qualify for Kiev
    StarCraft II
  • Stage #1 Cup on November 13th - Top 16 advance to Stage #2
  • Stage #2 Cup on December 1st - Top 16 advance to Stage #3
  • Stage #3 Cup on December 18th - Top 7 qualify for Kiev
