TM2 on ESL: Developments - Part 2: New signpack
We started announcing our improvements to our section, and here is the sequel to the first part. This time we announce our update on our sign pack.

Sign pack reform

This time we announce our update on our sign pack. Our first pack was used since 5 years, and now it is time to update and refresh it, with some special features. Here is a brief summary of new items:

  • New design
  • Added more arrows for different directions
  • Added different contents like GPS, Respawn (for tracks and leagues which allow), Finish, Jump, etc.
  • Added different logos
  • Added dynamic boards

You will have to use the new signpack from the upcoming map request, where you will be warned about the use of this new package.



For builders - 1: how to add ESL signs?

In Trackmania Nations Forever, for some reason, the signs only worked if you added the URLs of each sign with copy-paste (see below).

Good news, that (as it seems) now you can use the new boards with the default, easy way: extract the content of our zip file to the given place and simply choose the wished ad within the Painter tool.

The location of advertisements is:
[Documents]/ManiaPlanet/Skins/Any/Advertisement/[any folder name you want]



For builders - 2: Dynamic signs and their usage

We have added dynamic boards which are to advertise the latest news/leagues. You will have to add two dynamic boards to your tracks, one for the start and one near the finish. If you did it well, the starting and finishing players will be able to watch it and understand its content.

WARNING
These dynamic boards are not included in the signpack!

You have to add dynamic signs with pasting their URLs (so with the oldschool method).

The reason is simple: there is a higher chance that the game will update to the latest picture when you choose this board, if you don't use the local picking, but adding its URL.

How-to:

1. Place one of the URLs inside to the dynamic block at the start
2. Place the other URL inside to the dynamic block at the finish
3. Find the URLs in the file DynamicSigns.txt placed in the zip file





What do I need to know yet?

Nothing for the moment. You will be informed and reminded about everything important you will need to know when a new mapsearch is announced! Feel free to download and test the signpack!

Please make sure you extract all files (dds and loc) and use the links in the textfile for the dynamic signs!

They look great!
When I try to use dynamic signs, the first one displays a simple ESL logo and the second one displays a maniaplanet logo. Is this normal or is there something wrong ?

Nice job with it btw, they look great !

EDIT : I reload the map, on the second one there is an your search for new admins, but the first one hasn't changed.

2nd one should be an ad for tm2 go4 cups - worked fine for me

As Hoffi mentioned, the dynamic signs contain:
- search for techadmins
- ad for Go4TrackMania

If you use the links in the textfile for the signs, they should work properly.
I've just fixed the problem, it might be useful for some people so I will post it below :

Just delete the ESL_Ad-Dynamic.dss which is in the "Advertisement" folder, because when you place the Url for the first dynamic sign, the game connects this url with the one in your folder, not with the real image hosted on ESL servers.
Yes, the Dynamic dds is there by mistake and we advise you to delete it :)
Sign URL is the last thing this game checks when it comes to loading the signs so we have to bypass the first two steps: reading the file directly (by not including it in the pack) and data cache (cleaning it).
