These are the rules for the Apex Legends (PC) 3on3 ESPN EXP X Games Qualifier ANZ. We make every effort to ensure the rules are complete and up to date but this may not always be the case. You should also check the Info Page and News for additions, exceptions and modifications that may apply. The rules are a guideline and the decisions by admins may differ from them depending on the circumstances. If you have any questions about the rules, please write a support ticket.

Only a team which participated in a match can complain about the results in any way. The League administration reserves the right to amend, remove, or otherwise change the rules outlined in this Rulebook, without further notice. The League administration also reserves the right to make a judgment on cases that are not explicitly supported, or detailed in this Rulebook, or to make judgments that even go against this Rulebook in extreme cases, to preserve fair play and sportsmanship.

1. Game Format

1.1. Player Eligibility

All players participating in APEX LEGENDS (henceforth APEX) competitions must link their EA ID (Origin ID) on ESL Play. The gameaccount is needed to check if the correct player is playing. In order to participate in cups & ladders by ESL, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be a registered player on the ESL website. You must have an active EA account in good standing and link it to your profile.
  • If you do not meet these requirements, you will be deemed ineligible. Sign-ups will be closed for all cups 1 hour before they start. If your team has not signed up before this time you will be unable to participate.
  • All players must use their own accounts. Players are not allowed to participate with foreign accounts, nor to encourage other players to do so. Players may not change accounts/account names once they’ve started their participation in the challenge. Admins may in special cases decide to allow account/name changes.
  • A competitor must be a resident of or able to obtain a passport from (US and Canada) or a travel eligible country under the United States Visa Waiver Program(EU) (except for Canadian nationals) and must participate from one of the eligible countries listed in section 1.6 of these rules.
  • A competitor must have an Apex player level of at least 50. It is recommended that players use the "player level badge" so it is present in submitted screenshots.

1.2. Team and Player Names

ESL reserves the right to edit Nicknames and/or URL aliases. Team or player names that are too similar to that of another team or player are subject to be changed by ESL. For more information on team and player names, please refer to the ESL Global Ruleset section 3.1.2.

“Nicknames, Team Names and URL Aliases.” If a team name has been wrongly seized, please file a support ticket with proof of ownership of the name.

Only registered team members are allowed to play for a team. Playing in any matches with a ringer is prohibited. (See “Ringing/Faking” in the ESL Global Rules) Players and teams must compete under their officially registered

APEX team names and Nicknames during all official matches.

The ESL reserves the right to forbid the use of unwanted names and/or symbols in their competitions. Any legally protected words or symbols are generally forbidden unless the owner gives permission.

1.3. Roster

Team rosters must consist of at least the minimum amount of players required to participate in a cup. Teams are only allowed to play with players on their roster with a registered gameaccount. All roster changes must be made prior to the start of a cup. Playing with different players and/or illegal ringers will result in punishment. The team must play with their registered roster of 3 players for the duration of the whole cup.

The roster must consist of 3 players from the list of eligible countries, specified on each cup page.

1.4. Game version

All players must install the newest version of the game in order to participate in ESL cups. Updates must be installed before the cup starts, so delays will be at a minimum.

1.5. Technical Issues

Teams are responsible for their own technical issues (hardware/internet). Matches will not be rescheduled because of technical issues and matches will be played nevertheless. If the warm-up time in the starting area is exceeded the game goes on, even if the issue is not solved yet. In case of massive problems influencing a significant amount of players, a replay of the map may be called via the cup's support channels on Discord.

1.6. Participation

All teams must sign up 1 hour prior to the start time of the cup. To be eligible to participate in the Competition, Competitors must be at least 16 years old as of June 28th, 2019 and 18+ where rated by USK (Ex: Germany). All competitors must also meet the minimum age required to have a full (not underage) EA account in their territory of residence.

To attend Live Events, all Competitors under the age of majority in their territory of residence must have a parent or legal guardian (as required by law) accompany them and consent to the rules on their behalf.

The IDs registered on ESL Play should match with the exact IDs that are playing in a team, for the results to be eligible. Only teams from the following regions may participate in the qualifiers:

  • Australia
  • New Zealand

1.7. Peripheral gear

Players are free to use any unaltered in any unfair manner and non-harmful to the software devices, such as keyboards, mouses, controllers, etc. At the LAN finals, all players will be required to play with the in-game resolution locked to a 16:9 aspect ratio due to broadcast requirements.

1.8. Disqualification

To keep cups as efficient as possible, ESL reserves the right to disqualify teams. This will only be done in cases where a team purposefully stalls or attempts to block the cup from starting.

Usage of any 3rd party programs that enhance, add, modify, or remove game appearance, color, or files, is strictly prohibited during this event.

Intentionally changing your character's angle to look through a texture or object is prohibited. You are not allowed to set two actions to the same key. Players will not be permitted to use macros at the LAN finals. Doing so will result in penalties.

The intentional use of any bugs, cheats, glitches, or errors in the game is strictly forbidden and will be penalized. Any team found to be using any known exploit will forfeit their game upon the first occurrence of the exploit. If the team is found to use another known exploit for a second time and it is determined to have been done on purpose they will be removed from the cup and barred from any future cups.

1.9. Deny of participation

ESL and ESPN reserve the right to deny the participation of any player for any reason and precaution.

1.10. Qualifying

Qualifying teams will be provided with travel to and accommodations at the EXP Invitational at X Games Minneapolis.

1.11. No show, delays, and early leave

Depending on the reasons, teams will be accountable for no shows, delays and leaving the tournament before its completion, the consequences of which shall be decided by the admin team depending on the severity of the issue.

2. APEX Cup Rules

2.1. APEX Tournament Format

2.1.1. Game Settings

2.1.2. Ranking points

Each kill is worth 1 point. Each Win is worth 20 points.

2.2. Details

2.2.1. Game preparations

Please resolve any problems that might occur before a match starts. Connection or hardware problems during a match could lead to disqualification by ESL admins. Make sure all players are eligible to play. In team games, all players must be registered for their corresponding team's roster.

2.2.2. Substitute Players

No substitutes will be permitted for this tournament. Should an emergency arise that requires a sub, the tournament administration will review on a case by case basis. Please be ready to present evidence of the emergency should you need an emergency sub.

2.2.3. No show

If a participant signs up but does not submit the proper documentation within 1 hour of the end of the tournament, the participant will be deemed a “no show” and will be removed from the tournament.

2.2.4. Number of players

Teams must have 3 players at all times. Use of a “random” will not be permitted. All 3 registered IDs should match with the IDs of the team that participated in-game.

2.2.5. Disconnects

In the case that a player(s) disconnects during a match, the team is allowed to continue to play the match at a disadvantage.

2.2.6. Tiebreaker

In case of a tie in the results, the team with the most damage advances. If still tied the team that has the most 1st place finishes will be given the win. If the tie is still in place, the winner will be chosen randomly by the tournament administration.

2.2.7. Results

At the end of the 6-hour play session, teams will select 6 matches from the same session that they wish to submit. Any results and screenshots submitted that were played outside of the 6-hour play session will not be accepted. Every team needs at least one player who is submitting the screenshot in the right format and fill out all fields of the google form, which can be found linked in the "Info" tab of the tournament page.(By filling out and submitting this form you consent to have this information shared with ESL, ESPN, and EA for purposes of tournament administration and broadcast storytelling.) All teams must use the Google form for reporting the results 1 hour upon the tournament completion. If anything is unclear, participants should have screenshots available to verify the result and file a protest. Results and screenshots submitted from a wrong ID will not be accepted.

2.2.8. Tournament timeline after the qualifiers

Additional rules would be provided for the offline event with brief instructions for the attendance and schedule.

3. Communication & Support

Please submit a support ticket for any assistance during the cup. For communications, we ask teams to use our APEX LEGENDS Discord-server.

3.1. Admins

All participants must adhere to the decisions and rules of the tournament organizers, admins, and referees. All decisions are final, except in cases where the option to appeal is clearly stated. Conversations, either verbal or written, between organizers, admins or referees, and participants are confidential. Publicly posting or sharing these conversations with outside parties is strictly forbidden, unless permission is obtained.

3.2. Match Media

All match media (screenshots, demos, etc) must be kept for at least 14 days. Faking or manipulating match media is forbidden and will result in severe penalties. Match media should be named clearly based on what it is. It is not possible to file a protest or write a support ticket to complain about bad match media naming. However, if an admin is hindered in their work because of bad match media names then it can be punished. The match media, together with the results have to be reported on the Google form, linked in the "Info" tab of the tournament page.

3.3. Casting and Streaming

Casting an ESL match is only permitted with an ESL admin agreement. Personal streaming is always allowed, for any other purposes to get an agreement please write a Support ticket.
